SHE Empowerment- Safe House Economic Empowerment (2013- 2016)

During the first cycle of the project, model of economic empowerment was successfully developed in Sombor (2013 – 2016), and was then introduced and developed in two more cities in Serbia – Sremska Mitrovica and Pancevo in the second cycle (2017 - 2019.)

As part of the first cycle of the project implemented in Sombor, social enterprise Sombor Good Garden was founded in partnership with Social Welfare Center and local Safe House, focused on organic production. Profit made is re-invested in education of women through various trainings, workshops, courses etc. In this cycle, around 50 women were included in educative program that consisted of 10 different trainings, including six-month business development course. Trainings also covered the topic of presentation and sales, managing personal finances, career development, but also specific skills development, such as organic production, soap making, decoupage, etc.

During the second cycle of the project, social enterprises/training centers Mitrovica Good Garden and Hands were founded in Sremska Mitrovica and Pancevo, in cooperation with local Social Welfare Centers, Safe Houses and local women associations, who had an active role in providing services and supporting functioning of new enterprises. Mitrovica Good Garden produces healthy fruit products (jams, juices, spreads) by innovating traditional recipes, with no/or with low sugar content, without artificial aromas and additives; while Hands, relaying on combination of traditional technique and modern design, produces high quality and unique textile products like cotton tote bags, pillowcases, cloths etc.

Additionally, 15 small startup grants were awarded to best women businesses on the territory of Pancevo, Sremska Mitrovica, and Sombor, while up to 150 women participated in specific and soft skills trainings held in the second cycle.

Both cycles of the project were supported by United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women.
